2.2.5.1. Connect Command

Access:

  • Menu - Broadcaster | Conectar
  • - Toolbar Broadcaster

Description: Connect a instance of Microsoft Excel to the Real Time Excel Network (CoRTEx).

When a connection is established, the connection status indicator changes to "Connected to Real Time Excel Network” and the connecting options are disabled, with the consequent unlocking the disconnection options.
After a instance establish connection, is possible to send and receive data in Excel through the CoRTEx.

The connection speed of a certain instance to the CoRTEx depend from some factors, including such hardware characteristic (i.e. processor speed, RAM etc.) as the amount of data transmitted. Although, there is not a established limit to the amount of data transmitted over a Excel instance.

Important: Just after connecting a instance, will be possible to transmit and receive data in Excel through the CoRTEx!

When opening a new archive in the Excel and before connecting the CoRTEx, can be necessary to save the file or an error of moniker will be presented. It happens cause to establish the network, the system needs to access data about the file and, depending of the Windows version or updates, this data about the file are only able after saving. Again, it may be necessary only in the first connection and when done by a new file.

By Excel limitations, we advise to not open the same file in differents Excel instances. If the CoRTEx is started the first time in a instance, being that a same file of this instance is opened in another one, may occur inconsistencies in system functions, If, although, user need to use Real Time Excel Network for two Excel instances, being that each one contain a copy of the same file, user first need to connect to CoRTEx and later open the file copied. This will prevent updates errors in Excel Instances.
If a instance is not connected, all the recalculated cells will inform error #NUM (version 1.0.4 and older) or !Disconnected! (version 1.0.5).

Excel 97 limitations
The system use a set of auxiliar functions to work correctly , and the version 97 does not have one of this functions.
The system, although, can work correctly in Excel 97, but is necessary, when a new file is opened, force a manual calculation in the cells of its spread sheets that contain the system functions.
It can be manual, cell by cell (less efficient) or through a keyboard shortcut CTRL + ALT+ SHIFT + F9, which recalculate all cells at once.

Important: Use CTRL + ALT+ SHIFT + F9 only in Excel 97 and only when a new file that contains functions of reception and transmission of data be open. This will recalculate all the functions and make the system work correctly in Excel 97.

2.2.7. Computer Identification

The connections to CoRTEx are over the Microsoft Excel instance level. Although, all instances have a unique representation on the network.
When user use much (or only one) excel instances connected to CoRTEx, the "computer name" is used to represent it to others computers. In other way, all the instances are restricted to one computer and this computer is who participates effectively of CoRTEx through its "name".

It's important know, so, how your instances will be identified in the network.

Important: The "computer name" represents all Excel instances for the Real Time Excel Network.
